India Slams Pakistan Over Kashmir Remarks At UN
India has strongly criticised Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council after Islamabad again raised Jammu and Kashmir during a discussion on the Council’s annual report. New Delhi said UNSC membership carries serious responsibility and should not be misused to push biased political narratives.
India Rejects Pakistan’s Kashmir Claims
India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, P Harish, rejected Pakistan’s remarks on Jammu and Kashmir and reiterated that the Union Territory remains an integral and inalienable part of India.
He said Pakistan’s statements were baseless and inconsistent with historical facts. India also made it clear that repeated claims by Islamabad would not change the reality of Jammu and Kashmir’s status.
Pakistan Accused Of Misusing UNSC Platform
India accused Pakistan of using its temporary membership of the Security Council to circulate misleading claims and raise political issues unrelated to the agenda.
Harish said being a member of the UNSC is a huge responsibility and not a forum for peddling biased and false narratives. Pakistan is currently serving as an elected non-permanent member of the Council.
India Reaffirms Stand On Jammu And Kashmir
New Delhi’s response came after Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmad referred to Jammu and Kashmir during the discussion.
India has consistently maintained that Jammu and Kashmir is an internal matter and has objected to Pakistan raising the issue at international forums. The latest exchange adds to the continuing diplomatic tensions between the two countries at the United Nations.
