US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth Says It Can Resume Iran War
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has said the United States is “more than capable” of resuming military operations against Iran if diplomatic talks fail to produce an agreement. His remarks came at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, shortly after a Washington meeting ended without a final announcement on a possible Iran deal.

Hegseth said the US has sufficient weapons stockpiles and military capacity to restart operations if needed. He also said Washington continues to maintain global obligations, including preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
The remarks signal that the Trump administration is keeping military pressure on Tehran even as negotiations continue through diplomatic channels. Hegseth said any agreement with Iran would need to meet US security objectives.
Trump Iran Deal Talks Continue
President Donald Trump had earlier indicated that he was reviewing a possible agreement involving Iran, including issues linked to its nuclear programme, the Strait of Hormuz and regional security.
However, no final decision was announced after the latest high-level meeting in Washington. Iran has also pushed back against several US claims about the proposed deal, saying some of the reported terms were inaccurate or not yet agreed.

Speaking in Singapore, Hegseth also sought to reassure allies that the Iran conflict would not distract Washington from its commitments in the Indo-Pacific. He said the US remained focused on regional security and military readiness.
The comments come as Washington attempts to balance negotiations with Iran, military deterrence in the Middle East and strategic competition in Asia.
