Trump Pauses Project Freedom In Hormuz

US President Donald Trump has briefly paused Project Freedom, the American effort to guide stranded vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, citing diplomatic requests from Pakistan and other countries as talks with Iran continue.

Trump Pauses Project Freedom

Trump said the pause was meant to give diplomatic efforts more time as Washington tries to finalise a settlement with Iran. He claimed “great progress” had been made toward a complete agreement with Iranian representatives.

Project Freedom was launched to help commercial ships trapped in and around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy routes. The temporary pause comes even as tensions remain high in the Gulf after recent exchanges between the US and Iran.

US Blockade On Iran To Continue

While the vessel-guiding operation has been briefly paused, the US naval blockade targeting Iran will remain in force. American officials have maintained that the broader military posture is aimed at preventing further escalation and protecting shipping movement in the region.

The decision indicates that Washington is trying to keep pressure on Iran while also leaving room for negotiations. The pause does not signal a full withdrawal from the Gulf security operation.

Pakistan Role In Iran Talks

Pakistan has emerged as one of the countries urging restraint, with Trump saying the pause came partly at Islamabad’s request. The move highlights Pakistan’s diplomatic role as efforts continue to prevent the Gulf crisis from expanding further.

The Strait of Hormuz crisis has raised global concerns because of its impact on crude oil, gas and shipping flows. Any prolonged disruption in the waterway could affect energy prices and supply chains worldwide.
