Three Aircraft Damaged At Delhi Airport
Three Air India aircraft parked at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport were damaged after strong winds and rain pushed ground support equipment into the planes, forcing the airline to take the aircraft out of service for inspection and repairs.
Delhi Airport Aircraft Damage
The incident took place during a sudden spell of rain and strong winds in the national capital. Ground support equipment at the airport was reportedly dislodged by the weather and struck three parked Air India single-aisle aircraft.
One of the aircraft is expected to remain grounded for several days, while the other two may return to service within the week after checks and repairs are completed.
Air India Planes Hit By Ground Equipment
A video from the airport showed an IndiGo passenger stepladder being blown by strong winds before hitting a parked Air India aircraft. The incident raised concerns over ramp safety during sudden weather changes at busy airports.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, as the aircraft were parked when the damage occurred. An investigation has been initiated to assess the incident and determine whether additional safety measures are required.
Delhi Weather Disrupts Airport Operations
The sudden storm also affected weather conditions around Delhi airport, where airlines had already issued advisories asking passengers to check flight status before travelling.
The incident highlights the operational risks posed by intense wind and rain at major airports, especially when loose or mobile ground equipment is present near parked aircraft.
