Delhi Police shifted Wangchuk to Safdarjung Hospital after removing him from the protest site early on Saturday. Authorities said the decision was taken to ensure that he received urgent medical care after his prolonged fast raised serious health concerns.

Wangchuk was reported to be conscious and under medical supervision following his admission. His health had been closely monitored in recent days as doctors warned that continuing the hunger strike could place him at significant risk.

Delhi Police Clear Jantar Mantar Protest Site

After Wangchuk was taken to hospital, police asked the remaining protesters to vacate the Jantar Mantar site. Security personnel were deployed in the area as authorities cleared the protest location and managed the situation.

Wangchuk had been leading the demonstration in support of students demanding accountability and reforms over alleged irregularities in national entrance examinations.

Health Concerns Grow During Hunger Strike

Concerns over Wangchuk’s condition had intensified as his fast continued beyond 20 days. Medical professionals had repeatedly warned about the possible consequences of prolonged fasting, including severe dehydration, weakness and organ-related complications.

Authorities had also been directed to regularly monitor his condition and take necessary steps to protect his health. His removal from the protest site and subsequent hospitalisation marked a significant development in the ongoing agitation.
