Singapore Blocks Anti-Indian Online Posts

Singapore has ordered YouTube, Facebook and X to block access to 14 online posts targeting the Indian community, saying the content threatened racial harmony and appeared to have originated from a China-based platform.

Singapore Blocks Anti-Indian Social Media Posts

Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs said the posts carried inflammatory narratives against Indians and sought to undermine the country’s multicultural society. The content reportedly used selective visuals of crowded areas, including Little India, to suggest that Singapore was being “overrun” by Indians.

Authorities said such material was harmful because it targeted a specific ethnic community and could create distrust between different groups in Singapore.

China-Based Platform Link Under Probe

The ministry said investigations showed the content likely originated from a platform based in China before being circulated through other online platforms and websites. The posts included derogatory references to Indians, including language that compared their presence to a “concentration of curry.”

Singapore has treated the matter as a serious external influence concern, especially because the content appeared designed to inflame racial sentiment rather than report public issues.

Singapore Defends Multicultural Society

Singapore’s government said Indian migrant workers and residents contribute to the country’s growth and remain valued members of society. Officials said every community in Singapore is protected under the country’s model of racial harmony.

The action reflects Singapore’s strict position against online content that promotes racial hostility, especially when such messaging is linked to possible foreign-origin information operations.
