Reverse Exodus At Bengal-Bangladesh Border

Hundreds of suspected undocumented Bangladeshi nationals reportedly gathered near the Bithari-Hakimpur border point in North 24 Parganas as West Bengal intensified action against illegal immigration. The movement followed Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s warning to illegal immigrants to leave India.

Bengal-Bangladesh Border Exodus

The border area in Basirhat subdivision saw a rush of people allegedly trying to cross back into Bangladesh. Officials are monitoring the situation closely as the state government steps up identification and deportation measures.

The development has been described as a “reverse exodus,” with suspected illegal immigrants attempting to leave before facing detention or formal action under the state’s new enforcement push.

Suvendu Adhikari Illegal Immigration Warning

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has backed a strict “detect, delete and deport” policy against illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants. He said those staying illegally should leave quickly, warning that the government would not allow public resources to be used for infiltrators.

The state has also started setting up holding centres in districts such as Murshidabad and Malda for suspected illegal foreigners before deportation procedures are carried out.

Detect Delete Deport Policy

The policy focuses on identifying undocumented immigrants, removing ineligible names from official records where applicable, and deporting those found staying illegally. The issue has become a major administrative and political priority in West Bengal after the change in government.

Authorities are expected to strengthen border coordination, verification drives and detention infrastructure in the coming days. Officials have also indicated that legal processes and security checks will be followed before deportation.
