Renshaw Recalled as Australia Drop Weatherald

Australia have recalled Matthew Renshaw for the second and final Test against Bangladesh in Mackay, with opener Jake Weatherald omitted from the 13-player squad. The change follows Australia’s nine-wicket defeat in the opening Test, where the batting unit struggled for consistency.

Matthew Renshaw Recalled to Australia Test Squad

Renshaw returns to Australia’s Test setup and could make his first appearance in the format in more than three years if selected in the playing XI.

His most recent Test appearance came against India in Delhi in 2023, when he entered the match as a concussion substitute for David Warner.

The recall gives Australia another top-order option as selectors look for a stronger response in the second Test.

Jake Weatherald Dropped After Bangladesh Test

Weatherald has been left out after scoring 23 and zero in the opening Test against Bangladesh.

Australia were bowled out for 198 in their first innings before eventually suffering a nine-wicket defeat, putting pressure on the batting group ahead of the series finale.

Marnus Labuschagne has retained his place despite recent concerns over his form, while several established players remain part of the squad.

Cameron Green, Beau Webster, Travis Head and Josh Inglis are also included in the squad.

The second Test will be played in Mackay from August 22 to 26, with Australia needing victory to level the two-match series.
