Rahul Gandhi Says Gyanesh Kumar, Govt ‘Will Go’
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has renewed his demand for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, declaring that both Kumar and the current government will “go” as protests over electoral roll revisions intensify in New Delhi.
Rahul Gandhi Targets CEC Gyanesh Kumar
Gandhi made the remarks amid heightened security and detentions linked to the Cockroach Janta Party’s planned October 10 demonstration at Jantar Mantar.
He has repeatedly accused the Election Commission of failing to address opposition concerns regarding the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and has demanded Kumar’s resignation.
The Election Commission has rejected allegations of political bias and maintained that the revision exercise is intended to remove duplicate, deceased and ineligible entries while allowing eligible voters to seek correction or re-enrolment.
Congress Steps Up Street Protests
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have taken a more visible role in demonstrations over the issue in recent days, participating in protests, confronting police barricades and courting detention.
The Congress and several INDIA bloc parties have sought to build pressure on the Election Commission over alleged voter deletions and irregularities.
The BJP has rejected opposition accusations, arguing that the electoral revision process is being politicised.
Delhi Faces Major Security Restrictions
The CJP had called for a mass protest at Jantar Mantar demanding Kumar’s resignation, but Delhi Police denied permission for the gathering.
Authorities imposed extensive restrictions across central Delhi, including roadblocks, metro closures and detentions of protesters and CJP leaders.
The escalating confrontation has turned electoral roll revisions and the Election Commission’s functioning into a major political flashpoint between the government and opposition.
