Pulwama Accused Hamza Burhan Killed In PoK
Hamza Burhan, also known as Arjumand Gulzar Dar and “Doctor”, has reportedly been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, marking a major development linked to the 2019 Pulwama terror attack.
Hamza Burhan Killed In PoK
Burhan was reportedly attacked in Muzaffarabad by unknown assailants and sustained multiple bullet injuries. He was later said to have been shifted for medical treatment, where he died from his injuries.
He was a resident of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir and had allegedly moved to Pakistan in 2017. Indian agencies had linked him to terror operations and recruitment networks operating from across the border.
Pulwama Attack Mastermind
Burhan was identified as one of the alleged masterminds of the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed after a suicide bomber targeted a convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.
The attack was claimed by the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed and led to a major escalation between India and Pakistan. Burhan was also linked to the banned terror outfit Al-Badr and was designated as a terrorist by India in 2022.
Unknown Gunmen Target Terror Operatives
The killing adds to a series of recent attacks on anti-India terror operatives in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Several designated terrorists and handlers have been targeted by unidentified gunmen in similar incidents over the past few years.
The identity of the attackers and the motive behind the killing remain unclear. However, Burhan’s death is being seen as a setback to terror networks operating from Pakistan-occupied territory.
