Prashant Kishor Blames Samrat for BJP’s Bankipur Loss
Jan Suraaj Party founder and newly elected Bankipur MLA Prashant Kishor has said the BJP’s defeat in its long-held Bihar bastion was driven primarily by local factors and dissatisfaction with Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, rather than the recent wave of Gen Z-led protests.

Kishor said the BJP’s loss in Bankipur was largely linked to what he described as Choudhary’s lack of broad social acceptance as the NDA’s leadership face in Bihar.
He argued that the Chief Minister’s political record, background and leadership style had affected voter perception.
Kishor also said the BJP had traditionally benefited from anti-RJD voting in Bankipur, but voters were presented with what they considered a credible alternative through Jan Suraaj.
Bankipur Bypoll Ends BJP Dominance
Kishor won the August 3 Bankipur Assembly bypoll with 64,151 votes, defeating BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha by 19,324 votes.
Sinha secured 44,827 votes, while the RJD finished a distant third. The result ended the BJP’s uninterrupted hold over the constituency spanning more than three decades.
Kishor rejected suggestions that the victory was primarily a consequence of broader Gen Z unrest, saying those protests had little direct impact on Bankipur’s voting pattern.
Kishor Flags Growing Youth Discontent
While separating the Bankipur result from recent protests, Kishor acknowledged wider frustration among young Indians over unemployment, paper leaks and problems in the education system.
He said demonstrations in Delhi and Jharkhand reflected deeper structural dissatisfaction that governments could not simply suppress.
Kishor has pledged to focus on employment and education in Bankipur, including creating suitable job opportunities for members of around 10,000 families.
