Maharashtra FDA Suspends 13 Food Licences
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has suspended the food business licences of 13 establishments across four districts after inspections found alleged violations of food safety and hygiene standards. The action forms part of the State’s intensified enforcement drive under FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe.
Maharashtra FDA Suspends 13 Food Licences
The establishments facing action include restaurants, bakeries and outlets operated by major food chains.
Among them are four Domino’s Pizza outlets, three in Mumbai and one in Satara district. The FDA also suspended licences of fast-food establishments in Karad following inspections.
Five establishments in Nashik district were separately penalised after deficiencies were detected in cleanliness, food storage, water supply, equipment maintenance and pest-control measures.
Mumbai Restaurants Face Food Safety Action
In Mumbai, the FDA suspended licences of additional restaurants after inspections identified shortcomings involving sanitation, ventilation, water supply, pest control and storage practices.
The wider inspection campaign has also covered major restaurant chains including KFC, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, Subway, Burger King, Starbucks and Monginis.
During a special drive involving 104 chain restaurant establishments, authorities issued improvement notices to 95 businesses, while some outlets were ordered to stop operations.
FDA Intensifies Maharashtra Food Safety Drive
The latest action is part of a broader crackdown on food businesses across Maharashtra following repeated inspections under the State’s food-safety campaign.
Establishments whose licences have been suspended cannot resume normal food operations until required corrective measures are implemented and regulatory clearance is received.
The FDA has maintained that inspections will continue and that businesses failing to comply with prescribed hygiene and food-safety standards could face further regulatory action.
