The three platforms commissioned into the Indian Navy include the advanced stealth frigate INS Dunagiri, the large survey vessel INS Sanshodhak and the anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft INS Agray.
The commissioning ceremony was held in Kolkata on Sunday and marked another major addition to India’s naval fleet. The ships are expected to strengthen maritime surveillance, anti-submarine operations, hydrographic mapping and overall operational readiness.
India Defence Manufacturing Push
Speaking at the event, PM Modi said India does not want to remain merely a buyer in the global defence market. He said the country is steadily expanding its domestic defence manufacturing capacity and building platforms that support national security as well as industrial growth.
The Prime Minister said India’s maritime strength would play a key role in its economic and strategic influence. He also linked shipbuilding and maritime infrastructure to employment generation and the broader vision of a developed India.
Indian Navy Maritime Strength
The induction of INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak and INS Agray comes as the Indian Navy continues to modernise its fleet through indigenous shipbuilding projects. These platforms are designed to support different operational needs, from combat readiness to coastal and deep-sea survey missions.
The commissioning also underlines India’s focus on reducing dependence on foreign defence imports while building long-term naval capabilities. Officials said the new platforms would improve India’s preparedness in a changing maritime security environment.
