A special screening of the historical drama film Chhaava will be held at the Balayogi Auditorium within the Parliament library building. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several Union Ministers, and Members of Parliament are expected to attend the screening, which will also host the film’s lead actor Vicky Kaushal and other members of the cast and crew. Kaushal portrays the role of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the film.

PM Modi Praises Sambhaji Maharaj’s Legacy

Prime Minister Modi recently lauded the film’s portrayal of the Maratha ruler’s bravery. “It is Maharashtra and Mumbai that have elevated both Marathi and Hindi cinema. These days, Chhaava is creating a buzz across the country (In dino to Chhaava ki dhoom machi hui hai). The portrayal of Sambhaji Maharaj’s courage in this way has been inspired by Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel.”

The film, which dramatizes the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, emphasizes his resistance against Mughal aggression and his steadfast commitment to upholding Maratha pride. The narrative has resonated with audiences across the country, further amplified by the prime minister’s endorsement.

Box Office Triumph of ‘Chhaava’

Since its release on February 14, 2025, Chhaava has performed exceptionally well at the box office. The film has collected ₹583.35 crore in India and reached a worldwide total of ₹780 crore, including ₹90.50 crore from overseas territories. Its popularity surged again recently, recording a 31% jump in collections on a Sunday, with earnings of ₹4.8 crore and a Hindi occupancy rate of 18.85%.

The film’s critical acclaim and commercial success are largely credited to Vicky Kaushal’s powerful performance, supported by an evocative screenplay and grand production. The upcoming Parliament screening further underscores the film’s cultural impact, recognizing the legacy of a historical figure who played a key role in shaping Maratha history.

With its compelling narrative, national attention, and strong audience response, Chhaava has emerged not only as a cinematic hit but also as a meaningful tribute to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.
