Over 30 Killed In PoK Protest Crackdown

Over 30 people have reportedly been killed and around 200 others injured in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir after security forces opened fire during clashes with protesters. The violence followed a ban on the Joint Awami Action Committee, which has led protests over economic and political grievances in the region.

PoK Protest Violence Escalates

The clashes broke out after authorities banned the Joint Awami Action Committee, a civil society alliance active in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The group has been demanding relief on issues linked to electricity prices, food costs, taxation and governance.

Protests intensified across the region after the ban, with demonstrators accusing the authorities of suppressing public anger instead of addressing local grievances.

Security Forces Open Fire On Protesters

According to reports, Pakistani security forces opened fire on protesters during the unrest, leading to heavy casualties. More than 30 people were reported dead, while around 200 others were injured in the violence.

The incident has triggered fresh anger in PoK, where residents have repeatedly protested against rising costs, lack of political rights and alleged discrimination by the Pakistani administration.

India Reacts To PoK Crackdown

India has condemned the reported violence and accused Pakistan of using force to silence dissent in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. New Delhi has said the unrest reflects deep public frustration over Pakistan’s governance in the region.

The crackdown is expected to further intensify scrutiny of Pakistan’s handling of PoK, where economic hardship and political discontent have fuelled repeated waves of public protest.
