Mumbai Indians Name New Coaches for IPL 2027
Mumbai Indians have announced a major restructuring of their coaching staff ahead of IPL 2027, appointing former India batter Robin Uthappa as batting coach and T Dilip as fielding coach. The five-time IPL champions confirmed the changes on Friday, October 30, 2026, with former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard taking charge as head coach following Mahela Jayawardene’s departure.
Robin Uthappa Returns to Mumbai Indians as Batting Coach
Uthappa returns to Mumbai Indians nearly two decades after representing the franchise during the inaugural IPL season in 2008. The former India international, who was part of India’s victorious 2007 T20 World Cup squad, will begin his first coaching assignment with an IPL franchise.
His responsibilities will include improving batting performance, developing tactical awareness and preparing players for the evolving demands of T20 cricket.
T Dilip and Mitchell McClenaghan Join IPL 2027 Setup
Former India fielding coach T Dilip will oversee Mumbai Indians’ fielding department. He previously worked with the Indian men’s team during their successful campaigns in the 2024 and 2026 T20 World Cups and the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Former New Zealand fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan has been appointed bowling coach. He represented Mumbai Indians between 2015 and 2020 and was part of four IPL-winning squads.
Dhawal Kulkarni, another former Mumbai Indians player, joins as development bowling coach, focusing particularly on emerging Indian fast bowlers.
Kieron Pollard Leads Mumbai Indians Coaching Restructuring
The appointments follow the departures of Lasith Malinga, Paras Mhambrey and Carl Hopkinson from the coaching setup.
Pollard, who previously served as batting coach, now assumes overall responsibility for the team’s preparation and performance.
Mumbai Indians finished ninth in IPL 2026, prompting significant changes within the franchise.
The newly appointed coaching group will begin preparations by assessing player retention decisions ahead of the IPL 2027 auction scheduled for December.
