Bethell Fires England To T20 Win Over India
England defeated India by four wickets in the second T20I at Old Trafford, chasing down 191 with one over to spare after Jacob Bethell produced a match-winning unbeaten 76.
Jacob Bethell Leads England T20 Chase
England recovered from a disastrous start to reach 191 for six in 19 overs. Phil Salt and Jos Buttler were both dismissed for ducks in the opening over by Arshdeep Singh, leaving the hosts under immediate pressure.
Harry Brook counter-attacked with 39 off 15 balls before Tom Banton added another important 39. But the decisive innings came from Bethell, who held England’s chase together before accelerating sharply at the death.
England Beat India By Four Wickets
The turning point came in the 17th over, when Ravi Bishnoi conceded 29 runs, including two no-balls and free-hit sixes from Bethell. That over reduced the equation dramatically and left England needing only 20 runs from the final three overs.
Jofra Archer joined Bethell near the finish and helped complete the chase as England sealed a four-wicket win. Bethell was named player of the match for his unbeaten 76 off 46 balls.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Makes India Debut
Earlier, India posted 190 for seven after choosing to bat first. Abhishek Sharma made 43, Ishan Kishan scored 49, and Shreyas Iyer added 37 before late hitting from Tilak Varma lifted India close to 200.
The match also marked a historic debut for 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who became India’s youngest men’s international cricketer. He scored 14 off 10 balls, including two sixes, before being stumped off Will Jacks.
Sam Curran played a key role with the ball for England, taking three wickets as India lost momentum after reaching 130 for three in 13 overs.
