Mumbai Family Deaths Linked To Suspected Poisoning

Four members of a Mumbai family who died hours after eating watermelon may not have died due to routine food poisoning, with early forensic findings now pointing towards possible poisoning. Officials are awaiting final chemical analysis before reaching a confirmed conclusion.

Mumbai Family Deaths Under Investigation

The case involves 45-year-old Abdullah Dokadia, his wife Nasreen, 35, and their two daughters, Zainab, 13, and Ayesha, 16. The family had hosted relatives for dinner, where mutton pulao was served. The relatives reportedly remained unharmed after leaving the home.

The family later consumed watermelon around 1 am and fell ill within hours. They suffered vomiting and diarrhoea before dying, initially leading to suspicion that the watermelon may have been contaminated.

Forensic Findings Point To Possible Poisoning

Preliminary forensic examination reportedly found green discolouration in some organs of the victims, including the brain, heart and intestines. Doctors have indicated that these findings do not match a routine food poisoning case.

Traces of morphine, a controlled painkiller generally used in medical settings, were reportedly detected in Abdullah Dokadia’s body. Investigators are now examining whether this was linked to medical use, accidental exposure or a more suspicious cause.

FDA And Police Await Final Report

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has said no direct link has been established so far between the deaths and the watermelon consumed by the family. Officials are also checking whether the fruit had any external toxic substance or adulterant.

Police have registered an accidental death case and recorded statements of the relatives who had dinner with the family. The viscera samples of all four victims have been sent for chemical analysis, and the final report is awaited.
