Bangladesh has said discussions are continuing over a possible visit by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to India, signalling that diplomatic engagement between Dhaka and New Delhi remains active despite recent tensions. No date has yet been finalised for the proposed trip.

Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir said both sides were continuing discussions and that a visit would take place when conditions were conducive and the schedules of the two prime ministers allowed.
He stressed that no date had previously been fixed, rejecting suggestions that an agreed visit had been formally cancelled or blocked.
Kabir said any future meeting would be based on mutual respect, shared interests and a desire to improve bilateral relations.
Sheikh Hasina Row Strains India-Bangladesh Ties
The discussions come after Dhaka sharply criticised an August 5 event in New Delhi that featured former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Bangladesh described the event as damaging to efforts to reset bilateral ties. India maintained that the government had no role in organising the programme and did not endorse views expressed there.
Relations have remained sensitive since Hasina left Bangladesh for India following the political upheaval of August 2024.
Delhi Event Cancellation Seen as Positive Signal
Kabir welcomed the reported cancellation of another Delhi event expected to include figures linked to the suspended Awami League, describing the development as a positive step.
He said Bangladesh expects individuals it considers fugitives or security threats not to receive platforms abroad, while stressing that Dhaka would apply the same principle regarding threats to other countries.
The continuing discussions over Rahman’s visit suggest both governments are seeking to prevent recent disputes from derailing wider diplomatic engagement.
