MediaTek to Source Chips from India for Global Markets
MediaTek, a leading global semiconductor company, has announced plans to source chips from India for worldwide distribution.
In an exclusive interview with Business Standard, Finbarr Moynihan, MediaTek’s Vice President for Corporate Marketing, highlighted India’s growing role in the company’s global supply chain and its ambition to leverage the country’s expanding semiconductor ecosystem.
India’s Semiconductor Potential
Moynihan emphasized India’s strategic importance in MediaTek’s global plans, citing its robust talent pool, burgeoning local market, and government initiatives like the Semicon India Programme. “We see great potential in India, not only as a market but also as a hub for innovation and chip manufacturing. MediaTek aims to source chips from India that will serve global needs,” he stated.
With India prioritizing semiconductor manufacturing and research, MediaTek plans to strengthen collaborations with Indian partners to enhance chip design and production capabilities.
Boosting Local Innovation
Moynihan also underscored the company’s commitment to nurturing local innovation through partnerships with Indian startups, academia, and tech companies. “We aim to contribute to India’s semiconductor journey by fostering innovation and skill development,” he added.
The company’s focus aligns with India’s goal of becoming a global semiconductor hub, aiming to reduce dependency on imports and build a self-reliant chip industry.
