JD Vance Remarks On Pakistan Press Freedom

US Vice President JD Vance has said the delay in releasing the full text of the US-Iran peace agreement was partly linked to differing expectations around press freedom in Pakistan and Qatar, both of which helped facilitate the diplomatic process.

JD Vance Pakistan Press Freedom Remark

Vance made the remarks while explaining why Washington did not immediately release the details of the interim agreement with Iran. He said the United States had expected to make the text public, but added that Pakistan and Qatar did not operate with the same First Amendment-style press environment as the US.

He said there was a difference in expectations over whether the agreement text would be quickly available for public scrutiny, analysis and debate. The comment has drawn attention because Pakistan had projected its role in the US-Iran deal as a major diplomatic achievement.

US Iran Peace Deal Text Released

The interim agreement between the United States and Iran was announced on June 15, while the full text was released two days later after political pressure in Washington.

The deal is aimed at ending the conflict between the two countries and opening a 60-day window for negotiations on unresolved issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions relief and wider regional security concerns.

Iran Deal Terms Face Scrutiny

Vance also defended the agreement, saying it was different from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal because it required Iran to eliminate its enriched uranium stockpile. He said no American money would go to Iran under the reconstruction-related provisions.

The remarks come as the Trump administration faces questions over transparency, concessions to Tehran and the role of regional mediators in shaping the diplomatic framework.
