Anthropic CEO Remark Sparks AI Summit Row
A remark by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei describing the India AI Impact Summit as “extremely disorganised” has triggered a political exchange between the Congress and the BJP after a video clip from an interview circulated widely on social media.
Dario Amodei India AI Summit Remark
Amodei made the comment while responding to a question about an awkward moment on stage during the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, where he and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman appeared reluctant to hold hands during a group photograph.
He said participants were brought on stage at the last moment, their standing order was changed, and they were then asked to hold hands for the picture. However, Amodei also clarified that he was not criticising India specifically, saying such major international summits involving heads of state are often highly disorganised.
Congress BJP Row Over AI Summit
The remark soon became a political flashpoint after Congress leaders shared the video clip and criticised the government’s handling of the summit. Party leaders used the incident to attack the Centre over what they described as poor event management and image-focused governance.
The BJP hit back, accusing the Opposition of circulating an edited clip and ignoring Amodei’s clarification. Party leaders said the summit was a major international success and alleged that the Congress was trying to undermine India’s achievements on the global stage.
India AI Impact Summit 2026
The India AI Impact Summit 2026 was held in New Delhi in February and brought together global technology leaders, policymakers and international representatives.
The event was positioned as a major platform for India’s role in global artificial intelligence discussions, covering AI safety, innovation, governance and responsible deployment. The controversy has now added a political layer to what was originally presented as a high-profile technology diplomacy event.
