Major Fire Engulfs Delhi’s Gaffar Market

A major fire broke out at Gaffar Market in Delhi’s Karol Bagh during the early hours of Friday, November 6, 2026, damaging a four-storey commercial building just days before Diwali. The Delhi Fire Service deployed 22 fire engines and additional emergency equipment to contain the blaze. Authorities confirmed that no casualties or injuries had been reported.

Fire Spreads Through Four-Storey Commercial Building

The incident was reported at approximately 1.28 am at Puri Plaza, Shop No. 13/21, in Chain Wali Gali, a commercial area known for mobile phones and electronic accessories.

Police personnel and firefighters rushed to the location after receiving an emergency call.

The fire reportedly originated in a ground-floor shop storing mobile batteries before spreading to the upper floors.

Three ambulances and two police response vehicles were also deployed. Firefighters eventually extinguished the flames after several hours of operations.

Overheating Mobile Batteries Suspected as Cause

Preliminary investigations suggest that overheating or overcharging of mobile batteries may have triggered the blaze.

However, authorities have not established the exact cause.

The Delhi Fire Service and Electrical Inspector will submit reports examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A Forensic Science Laboratory team will also inspect the premises to determine whether additional combustible materials contributed to the fire’s rapid spread.

Authorities Order Structural Safety Inspection

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will be asked to assess the building’s structural stability before it is considered safe for occupation.

Police personnel remain deployed around the affected premises to secure the area and facilitate investigations.

The fire caused substantial property damage in one of Delhi’s major electronics markets during the busy Dhanteras and Diwali shopping period.

Officials have not yet released an estimate of the financial losses.
