Delhi Announces Fuel Saving Steps
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a series of fuel-saving measures for government offices after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to reduce fuel use and promote wise spending amid global uncertainty.
Delhi Government Work From Home Plan
The Delhi government has decided to introduce two days of work from home every week for government employees. The move is aimed at reducing daily commuting, cutting fuel consumption and easing traffic congestion in the national capital.
The government has also decided that 50% of official meetings will be held online to reduce unnecessary travel. Office timings of the Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will also be changed to lower peak-hour traffic pressure.
No Vehicle Day And Metro Day In Delhi
The government will promote a weekly “No Vehicle Day” and observe a “Metro Day” to encourage the use of public transport. Ministers and officers have been asked to use the Metro on Mondays as part of the fuel conservation push.
The Delhi government will also avoid purchasing new official vehicles for six months. Petrol limits for officers have been reduced by 20%, lowering the monthly cap from 200 litres.
Rekha Gupta Announces Austerity Measures
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the measures are part of the “Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan” initiative to support fuel conservation and responsible public spending.
The government has also announced restrictions on foreign travel by ministers and officials for one year. The steps are being projected as part of a broader effort to reduce fuel use, control official expenditure and support India’s energy security at a time of international volatility.
