DRDO Successfully Tests Indigenous Pralay Missile
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a flight test of the indigenously developed Pralay quasi-ballistic missile from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast on Thursday, November 5, 2026. The test, conducted at approximately 11.10 am, achieved all its objectives and brought the missile system closer to induction into the Indian Armed Forces.
Pralay Missile Successfully Completes User Trials
The Defence Ministry confirmed that all test parameters were met, based on data collected by tracking instruments deployed at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur.
The launch formed part of user evaluation trials conducted in the presence of senior DRDO officials, armed forces personnel and defence industry representatives.
The ministry said the successful test had made the missile’s induction imminent, although no specific operational deployment date was announced.
Indigenous Pralay Missile Has 500-Km Range
Pralay is a solid-propellant, surface-to-surface quasi-ballistic missile designed for precision conventional strikes.
The missile has an operational range of approximately 150 to 500 kilometres and can carry payloads weighing between 500 and 1,000 kilograms.
Unlike conventional ballistic missiles, Pralay follows a manoeuvrable flight trajectory, allowing it to change course during flight and making interception more challenging.
The system uses advanced navigation and guidance technologies to improve targeting accuracy against different types of military objectives.
Rajnath Singh Praises DRDO and Defence Industry
Pralay was developed by Hyderabad-based Research Centre Imarat in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories.
Bharat Dynamics Limited, one of the development and production partners, manufactured the missile system.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO scientists, the armed forces and industry partners, describing the successful trial as an important milestone in strengthening India’s indigenous defence capabilities.
Defence Secretary and DRDO Chairman Rajesh Kumar Singh also congratulated the teams involved.
The latest test advances India’s efforts to develop domestically manufactured conventional missile systems and strengthen military preparedness against emerging security threats.
