Punjab Minister Sanjeev Arora Arrested By ED
Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on Saturday after searches were carried out at premises linked to him in Chandigarh and the Delhi-NCR region.
Sanjeev Arora Arrested In Money Laundering Case
The Enforcement Directorate arrested Arora under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act after conducting raids at four locations connected to him and his entities.
Arora, 62, is an Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Ludhiana West and holds key portfolios in the Punjab government, including industries, commerce, investment promotion, power and local government.
ED Raids Linked To Alleged Financial Irregularities
The searches included Arora’s official ministerial residence in Chandigarh’s Sector 2. Officials said the action was linked to a money laundering investigation involving alleged financial irregularities and suspected transactions connected to entities associated with him.
The case has also been linked in reports to alleged fake GST transactions worth over Rs 100 crore. The investigation is being carried out under PMLA provisions.
AAP Condemns Sanjeev Arora Arrest
The arrest triggered a sharp political response from the Aam Aadmi Party. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann accused the BJP-led Centre of using central agencies to target political opponents.
AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal also condemned the action and alleged political vendetta. The BJP has rejected similar allegations in the past, maintaining that investigative agencies act independently under the law.
The arrest comes after earlier ED action against Arora-linked premises, including searches conducted in April and previous proceedings linked to alleged misuse of industrial land for residential projects.
