Kejriwal Seeks Rollback Of E20 Petrol

AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to roll back the E20 petrol rollout, citing public concerns over mileage, vehicle compatibility and consumer impact.

Kejriwal Seeks E20 Petrol Rollback

Kejriwal said he would write to the Prime Minister seeking a rollback of the 20% ethanol-blended petrol programme. He said motorists across the country were raising concerns that E20 fuel was reducing vehicle mileage and increasing running costs.

The AAP leader questioned why the fuel blend was being implemented on a large scale if concerns remained over its long-term impact on vehicles. He said any major fuel transition should be backed by clear testing, transparent public communication and safeguards for consumers.

Centre Denies E20 Experiment Claim

The Centre has denied reports that the Attorney General told the Supreme Court that the E20 ethanol blending programme was an “experiment”. The clarification came after earlier reports triggered political criticism and public debate over whether the rollout had been implemented without complete assessment.

Government representatives have maintained that ethanol blending is part of India’s long-term energy strategy to reduce crude oil imports, cut emissions and support domestic ethanol production.

E20 Mileage Concerns Grow

Kejriwal said many vehicle owners were reporting lower fuel efficiency after shifting to E20 petrol. He also asked whether the government would compensate citizens if older vehicles suffered damage or reduced performance due to the ethanol blend.

The E20 programme has become a major public policy debate, with the government promoting it as a clean fuel initiative and critics demanding clearer data on mileage, vehicle compatibility and consumer cost.
