Johannesburg Shooting Kills 12
At least 12 people were killed and nine others injured after gunmen opened fire at multiple locations in an informal settlement east of Johannesburg, South African police said. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the attackers, while the motive remains unclear.
Johannesburg Mass Shooting
The shooting took place late Tuesday night at the Jumpers informal settlement in Cleveland, east of Johannesburg. Police said more than 10 armed suspects arrived in a white Toyota Quantum before entering the settlement through two access points.
The gunmen allegedly opened fire at residents in different locations before fleeing the area in the same vehicle. Eleven people died at the scene, while one later died in hospital.
South Africa Gunmen Attack
The victims included nine men and three women. Emergency services transported the injured to different hospitals for treatment after the attack.
Police have not made any arrests so far. Specialist officers and crime intelligence teams have been deployed as part of the investigation. Authorities are working to establish whether the attack was linked to organised crime or other local disputes.
South Africa Gun Violence
The shooting has renewed concern over gun violence in South Africa, where mass shootings and organised criminal attacks remain a serious security challenge.
Johannesburg and surrounding areas have witnessed recurring incidents linked to gangs, illegal mining networks and violent crime. However, officials have not confirmed any motive in the latest Cleveland settlement shooting.
The incident is expected to increase pressure on authorities to intensify policing and intelligence operations in high-risk communities.
