India Pushes Zero-Tolerance Terror Policy at UN
An Indian parliamentary delegation led by Rajya Sabha MP Sikander Kumar used meetings at the United Nations General Assembly to reaffirm New Delhi’s position that terrorism cannot be justified in any form.
The delegation stressed that cross-border terrorism remains a major security concern for India and called for coordinated global action against terrorist networks and their support structures.
India also maintained that lasting peace cannot be achieved while terrorist safe havens continue to operate across borders.
India Seeks Stronger Cooperation With UNOCT
The delegation held talks with Alexander Zouev, Acting Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism.
Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between India and the UN body in areas including intelligence sharing, counter-terrorism capacity building and legal mechanisms to combat terrorism.
India also highlighted its contribution to international efforts aimed at restricting the spread of extremist activity through digital platforms.
Terror Financing and Cyber Threats in Focus
The Indian delegation stressed the need to prevent terrorist organisations from exploiting modern technologies, illicit financial networks and cyberspace.
Members argued that stronger international coordination is necessary to tackle terror financing and improve the global legal framework against terrorism.
India also emphasised the importance of a rules-based international order, pointing to its long experience of dealing with terrorism and cross-border attacks.
The delegation said global counter-terrorism efforts must include dismantling safe havens and ensuring that states and networks supporting terrorism are held accountable.
