JD Vance Slams Israel Critics Over Iran Deal
US Vice President JD Vance has sharply criticised Israeli officials who publicly opposed Washington’s interim agreement with Iran, exposing a growing strain between two close allies over the direction of Middle East diplomacy.
JD Vance Criticises Israeli Officials
Vance pushed back against Israeli criticism of the US-Iran deal, saying Israel should recognise the importance of American support at a time of regional uncertainty. His remarks came after several Israeli officials expressed concern that the agreement could leave Iran with strategic leverage.
The US Vice President defended the deal as a necessary diplomatic step to reduce tensions and create space for further negotiations. He also indicated that Washington would continue to pursue its policy objectives even if Israeli leaders disagreed with parts of the framework.
US-Iran Deal Sparks Diplomatic Rift
The interim agreement between the United States and Iran has created unease in Israel, where officials have long viewed Tehran’s nuclear and regional activities as direct security threats.
The deal reportedly opens a 60-day negotiation period aimed at resolving broader disputes, including Iran’s nuclear programme, regional security concerns and maritime movement through the Strait of Hormuz. Washington has argued that diplomacy is needed to prevent further escalation and stabilise the region.
Israel-US Tensions Over Iran
Vance’s comments reflect a rare public disagreement between Washington and Israeli officials over Iran policy. While the United States remains Israel’s closest military and diplomatic partner, the Iran agreement has brought differences between the allies into sharper focus.
Israel has repeatedly warned that any deal with Iran must prevent Tehran from strengthening its nuclear and proxy networks. The US, however, appears focused on using the interim framework to pause escalation and move both sides toward a broader settlement.
