Iran Rejects Trump-Khamenei Meeting Idea

Iran has dismissed the possibility of a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, signalling that direct top-level engagement between Tehran and Washington remains unlikely amid continuing tensions.

Iran Rejects Trump Meeting Proposal

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected the suggestion after Trump indicated that he would be open to meeting Iran’s Supreme Leader. Araghchi said Washington should “live in the real world,” making it clear that Tehran does not currently see such a meeting as a practical diplomatic option.

The remarks come at a sensitive time, with Iran and the United States still divided over nuclear negotiations, sanctions, regional tensions and the broader security situation in West Asia.

Trump Remarks On Iran Supreme Leader

Trump’s comments suggested that he remained willing to pursue direct diplomacy with Iran’s top leadership if it helped move talks forward. However, Iran’s response indicates that Tehran is not prepared to treat a possible high-profile meeting as a serious proposal at this stage.

Iran has repeatedly maintained that any diplomatic process must be based on respect, guarantees and relief from sanctions. Tehran has also rejected pressure tactics from Washington, especially on its nuclear programme and regional policy.

US-Iran Tensions Remain High

The latest exchange highlights the deep mistrust between the two countries. While Washington has continued to speak about negotiations, Tehran has insisted that the United States must first show credible intent through concrete policy steps.

The possibility of a Trump-Khamenei meeting therefore remains remote. Iran’s latest statement suggests that any future engagement is more likely to continue through lower-level diplomatic channels rather than a direct meeting between the two leaders.
