India To Supply BrahMos To Indonesia
India is set to supply Indonesia with two batteries of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles in a deal valued at around $200 million, marking another major step in India’s defence export push.
India Indonesia BrahMos Missile Deal
The BrahMos agreement was finalised as part of a wider package of defence cooperation between India and Indonesia during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jakarta.
The deal includes the supply of two BrahMos missile batteries to Indonesia, strengthening its coastal defence and anti-ship capabilities. The BrahMos system is a supersonic cruise missile jointly developed by India and Russia and is already in service with the Indian armed forces.
Defence Agreement Boosts Strategic Ties
The agreement reflects growing defence and maritime cooperation between New Delhi and Jakarta. Indonesia, located along key Indo-Pacific sea lanes, has been seeking to modernise its military capabilities amid changing regional security dynamics.
India has been expanding defence exports in Southeast Asia, with BrahMos emerging as one of its most important strategic export platforms. The Indonesia deal is expected to improve India’s position as a reliable defence supplier in the region.
Astra Missile And Maritime Cooperation
Apart from BrahMos, both sides also agreed to deepen cooperation on Astra air-to-air missile systems, defence technology transfer and maritime security.
The agreements are expected to support joint defence production, training, maintenance and long-term military engagement. For India, the deal strengthens the Act East policy and supports its wider Indo-Pacific outreach.
The defence package also signals stronger trust between the two countries as they work to expand cooperation in trade, security, critical minerals and regional connectivity.
