India Tests Advanced Agni Missile With MIRV

India has successfully conducted a flight trial of an Advanced Agni missile equipped with Multiple Independently Targeted Re-Entry Vehicle technology, marking a major boost to the country’s strategic defence capability.

India Tests Advanced Agni Missile From Odisha

The missile was tested from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast on May 8, 2026. The Defence Ministry said the flight trial met all mission objectives, with multiple payloads aimed at different targets spread across a large geographical area in the Indian Ocean Region.

The trial was witnessed by senior DRDO scientists and Indian Army personnel.

MIRV Capability Boosts India’s Strategic Deterrence

MIRV technology allows a single missile system to carry multiple payloads that can be directed at separate targets. This significantly improves the missile’s operational flexibility and strengthens India’s long-range deterrence capability.

The successful test once again demonstrated India’s ability to target multiple strategic locations using a single missile system. The missile has been developed by DRDO laboratories with support from Indian industries.

Rajnath Singh Praises DRDO And Army

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the Indian Army and industry partners for the successful trial. He said the achievement would add an important capability to India’s defence preparedness amid evolving threat perceptions.

The latest test adds to India’s growing missile development programme and reinforces the country’s position among nations with advanced strategic missile technologies.
