India Slams Pakistan At UNSC Over Civilians

India strongly criticised Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council, accusing it of having a “long-tainted record of genocidal acts” while responding to Islamabad’s remarks on Jammu and Kashmir during a debate on protection of civilians in armed conflict.

India Pakistan UNSC Exchange

India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni, said Pakistan had once again raised issues that are internal to India. He described Islamabad’s comments as ironic, given Pakistan’s own record of violence against civilians.

The remarks were made during the annual UNSC open debate on the protection of civilians in armed conflict, where India pushed back against Pakistan’s attempt to internationalise the Kashmir issue.

Pakistan Civilian Violence Allegations

India referred to reports of civilian deaths and injuries in Afghanistan caused by cross-border armed violence involving Pakistani military forces. New Delhi said hundreds of Afghan civilians had been affected in the first quarter of 2026, with many casualties linked to air strikes.

India argued that Pakistan’s conduct reflected a pattern of using violence to externalise internal failures while continuing to interfere in the affairs of neighbouring countries.

India Raises Terrorism Concerns

The Indian statement also linked Pakistan’s record to the broader issue of terrorism and instability in the region. New Delhi has repeatedly accused Islamabad of supporting cross-border terrorism and using international platforms to divert attention from its own actions.

The sharp exchange at the UNSC underlined the continued diplomatic confrontation between India and Pakistan over terrorism, civilian protection and regional security.
