NIA Arrests Kolkata Man In Pakistan Spy Case
The National Investigation Agency has arrested Kolkata resident Zafar Riaz alias Rizvi for allegedly spying for Pakistan Intelligence Officers and sharing confidential security-related information as part of an anti-India terror conspiracy.
NIA Arrests Kolkata Resident
The accused was arrested after a Look Out Circular had been issued against him. Proceedings were also underway to declare him a Proclaimed Offender when the NIA took him into custody.
The agency has booked Zafar under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Official Secrets Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Investigators allege that he passed sensitive information to Pakistan-linked handlers.
Pakistan Spy Network Probe
According to the NIA, Zafar is married to a Pakistani national and his children are Pakistani citizens. The agency also said he had travelled frequently between India and Pakistan since 2005.
Investigators have claimed that his role was part of a wider espionage network linked to Pakistan Intelligence Officers. The case is being examined as an alleged anti-India conspiracy involving the collection and sharing of confidential security-related information.
Previous Espionage Conviction
The NIA has said Zafar had earlier been convicted in an espionage case under the Indian Penal Code and the Official Secrets Act. His latest arrest adds to concerns over suspected cross-border intelligence networks operating through personal, digital and travel links.
The investigation is expected to focus on his contacts, communication records, travel history and the nature of information allegedly shared with Pakistani handlers.
