India Participates As Observer At Board Of Peace Meeting

By BPN News Desk February 21, 2026

India participated as an observer in the inaugural Board of Peace meeting held in Washington, D.C., marking its engagement with a new international diplomatic initiative aimed at peace efforts related to the Gaza conflict and broader stability concerns. The participation underlined India’s interest in peace dialogue while maintaining its established foreign policy stance.

India Observer Role At Board Of Peace

India attended the first meeting of the Board of Peace in the United States capital in the capacity of an observer. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that India did not take up full membership but sent its representative to observe proceedings, signalling diplomatic engagement without formal commitment to the body’s structure.

The Board of Peace initiative was convened by the United States and includes a mix of member countries and observer nations focused on international peace discussions.

Representation By Indian Diplomat In Washington

India was represented at the Board of Peace meeting by Namgya C. Khampa, Chargé d’affaires and Deputy Chief of Mission at India’s embassy in Washington. Her presence reflected India’s measured participation alongside other observer countries, which included nations from Europe and the broader Global South.

India’s observer role came after careful consideration by the Ministry of External Affairs, which had earlier said it was reviewing the invitation to join the Board of Peace.

India’s Position On Peace Initiative

While attending as an observer, India reiterated its long-standing support for peace and political solutions to conflicts, including those in West Asia. The country has expressed backing for diplomatic efforts in line with broader international resolutions and frameworks.

India’s participation as an observer highlights its approach to engage with global peace platforms while balancing its commitments to established multilateral institutions and its strategic foreign policy priorities.
