India End England’s Edgbaston ODI Streak

India ended England’s 12-year unbeaten run in men’s One-Day Internationals at Edgbaston with a six-wicket victory in the opening match of the three-game series. Chasing 259, the visitors reached 262 for four in 45.2 overs to take a 1-0 lead.

England Collapse After Promising Start

England chose to bat and reached 61 without loss before India’s bowlers changed the course of the innings. Five wickets fell for only 19 runs, leaving the hosts struggling at 80 for five.

The situation worsened at 107 for six before Joe Root and Liam Dawson launched a recovery. Their 121-run partnership gave England a competitive total, with Dawson scoring 68 and Root remaining unbeaten on 76.

Axar Patel led India’s bowling attack with figures of four wickets for 62 runs as England were bowled out for 258 in 47.5 overs.

Shubman Gill Leads India’s Chase

India lost Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli cheaply, but captain Shubman Gill kept the chase under control with a composed 80. Shreyas Iyer contributed 35 before England reduced India to 160 for four.

Gill later retired hurt due to cramps, giving England an opportunity to apply pressure. However, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar prevented any further breakthrough and steadily reduced the required run rate.

Axar Patel Seals All-Round Victory

Axar completed an influential all-round performance by scoring an unbeaten 57 after his four-wicket haul. Washington supported him with 52 not out as the pair added an unbroken 102 runs.

Washington completed the chase with a six, securing India’s sixth consecutive ODI victory over England. The result was also England’s first defeat in a men’s ODI at Edgbaston since India’s nine-wicket win at the venue in September 2014.
