Imran Khan Returns to Jail After Hospital Check-Up

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was taken from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a medical examination following a Supreme Court order over concerns about his health. He was later declared medically fit and returned to prison early Friday after undergoing specialist assessments.

Imran Khan Moved to Islamabad Hospital

Khan was transferred to the private hospital on Thursday night, two days after Pakistan’s Supreme Court directed authorities to provide him with specialist medical evaluation.

The 73-year-old former prime minister has been imprisoned since August 2023. His family and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf have repeatedly raised concerns about his health, particularly problems affecting his eyesight.

The hospital transfer marked the first major medical evaluation outside prison following months of demands from his family and political party.

Doctors Declare Imran Khan Medically Fit

A team of specialists, including an ophthalmologist, cardiologist and physician, examined Khan during his hospital stay.

After the assessment, authorities said doctors had declared him medically fit. Khan was subsequently returned to Adiala Jail early Friday rather than remaining hospitalised for an extended period.

His sister Azma Khan was reportedly present during the medical evaluation.

PTI Continues to Raise Imran Khan Health Concerns

The Supreme Court had ordered that Khan receive access to specialist doctors, including his personal physician, following concerns raised about his deteriorating health.

PTI has maintained that Khan requires better medical access and has repeatedly criticised restrictions surrounding visits and communication with him.

Khan remains imprisoned following convictions in multiple cases, while he continues to deny wrongdoing and maintains that the prosecutions against him are politically motivated.
