IAEA Warns Iran Nuclear Risk Has Increased

The International Atomic Energy Agency has warned that uncertainty over Iran’s nuclear programme has increased after Tehran suspended inspections following U.S. and Israeli strikes on its nuclear facilities.

IAEA Raises Iran Nuclear Proliferation Concern

The IAEA has said it can no longer verify the status and location of Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium. The agency warned that the lack of access has created a serious proliferation concern because the material had earlier been under international monitoring.

The warning comes after Iran suspended IAEA inspections following attacks on its nuclear sites. The agency said this has made it difficult to draw clear conclusions about the current condition of Iran’s nuclear material.

Iran Inspections Suspended After Strikes

The report follows U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, including sites linked to enrichment and nuclear research. Washington had earlier claimed that Iran’s nuclear infrastructure had been badly damaged, but the IAEA’s assessment suggests uncertainty remains over both the facilities and the uranium stockpile.

The concern is not only about physical damage to nuclear sites, but also about whether highly enriched uranium remains accounted for and verifiable.

Nuclear Deal Verification In Focus

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi has said any agreement with Iran must include proper verification. He warned that a deal without verifiable commitments would create further risk.

The issue has also complicated U.S.-Iran diplomacy, with Washington saying Iran has agreed not to develop nuclear weapons, while the IAEA continues to stress that inspection access is essential for confidence and compliance.
