Hero To Launch E100 Ethanol Motorcycle

Hero MotoCorp is set to launch India’s first E100-compatible flex-fuel motorcycle on June 3 in New Delhi, marking a major step in the country’s push for cleaner transport and ethanol-based mobility.

Hero MotoCorp E100 Motorcycle Launch

The motorcycle will be capable of running on 100% ethanol fuel, also known as E100. The launch is expected to take place in the presence of Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

Hero MotoCorp has not yet officially disclosed the model name. The company is expected to position the motorcycle as part of India’s wider effort to promote alternative fuels and reduce dependence on petrol.

India Pushes Ethanol-Based Mobility

India has been expanding ethanol blending in petrol to cut crude oil imports, support sugarcane and grain-based ethanol producers, and lower vehicle emissions. The government has already pushed E20 petrol, which contains 20% ethanol, across large parts of the country.

An E100-compatible motorcycle would represent a bigger shift because it can run entirely on ethanol rather than only a petrol-ethanol blend.

Flex-Fuel Bikes Gain Attention

Flex-fuel vehicles are designed to run on different ethanol blends, giving users more fuel options where ethanol supply is available. For two-wheelers, the biggest challenge will be building fuel availability, pricing clarity and consumer confidence.

Hero’s upcoming motorcycle could become an important test case for ethanol-powered mass mobility in India, especially if supported by fuel infrastructure and competitive running costs.
