GMR and JSW Groups Reveal Management Changes for Delhi Capitals

The GMR and JSW Groups, co-owners of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals, have announced significant management changes ahead of the upcoming season. In a joint statement released on October 17, the two groups outlined adjustments in team leadership and decision-making structures.

Sourav Ganguly’s New Role with Delhi Capitals

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who has been closely associated with Delhi Capitals, will transition into a new capacity. While stepping down from a frontline role with the IPL side, Ganguly will now serve as the director of cricket for Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 league and Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) over the next two years. This shift marks a change in Ganguly’s involvement, with a focus on the broader cricketing landscape.

Management Reshuffle and Decision-Making Process

With Ganguly taking on his new role, the GMR Group, led by Kiran Kumar Grandhi, will assume the responsibility of managing the Delhi Capitals franchise, reverting control from the JSW Group after two years. Y Venugopal Rao and Hemang Badani will take on key responsibilities for the team.

Though Ganguly will attend the IPL auction, his involvement in decision-making will be limited, with the GMR and JSW groups jointly deciding on critical aspects such as player retention, captaincy, and auction strategies. The joint statement emphasized that decisions will be made by mutual agreement between the senior leadership of both groups, ensuring a collaborative approach to the team’s future.

Rishabh Pant’s Future with Delhi Capitals

While Rishabh Pant, the current captain of Delhi Capitals, remains engaged in national duties for the ongoing Test series against New Zealand, the GMR Group has refrained from commenting on his future with the franchise. However, signs indicate a positive outlook for Pant’s long-term retention, though uncertainties regarding his role as captain persist among fans and stakeholders.

This management reshuffle highlights the evolving dynamics within the Delhi Capitals franchise as it gears up for the upcoming IPL season.
