Delhi Under Yellow Heatwave Alert
Delhi has been placed under a yellow alert as the India Meteorological Department warned of severe heatwave conditions over parts of north India. The capital recorded intense heat on Sunday, with the maximum temperature touching 43.6 degrees Celsius, around 3.4 degrees above normal.
Delhi Heatwave Alert Issued By IMD
The IMD has warned that heatwave conditions are likely to continue over Delhi-NCR and parts of north India in the coming days. Dry weather, hot winds and above-normal temperatures are expected to keep discomfort levels high.
The yellow alert advises residents to remain cautious, especially during peak afternoon hours when heat exposure can increase the risk of dehydration and heat-related illness.
North India Faces Severe Heat Conditions
Several parts of north India are expected to face severe heatwave conditions, with temperatures staying above normal in many areas. Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi-NCR are among the regions being monitored closely.
The IMD has also indicated that gusty winds and dust storms may occur in some areas, but they are unlikely to provide major relief from the heat immediately.
IMD Advises Heatwave Precautions
Authorities have advised people to avoid direct sunlight during afternoon hours, drink enough water and take extra care of children, elderly people and outdoor workers.
The weather office expects some relief later in the week if western disturbance activity brings clouds, gusty winds or light rain. Until then, Delhi and nearby areas are likely to remain under heatwave stress.
