Delhi Police Seizes Rs 2,000 Crore Worth Cocaine Hidden in Snack Packets
New Delhi: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Delhi Police Special Cell seized approximately 200 kilograms of cocaine worth Rs 2,000 crore from a warehouse in the Ramesh Nagar area on Thursday.
The illegal consignment, concealed in packets labeled as ‘namkeen’ (snacks), was linked to an international drug cartel operating in India and abroad.
The police were able to locate the stash by tracking a car fitted with a GPS device, which was used to transport the drugs. The operation was executed smoothly, leading to the discovery of the cocaine in the warehouse.
Drug Kingpin Flees to London
According to officials, the individual responsible for bringing the cocaine to Delhi has reportedly fled to London. Investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the suspect, who is believed to be a key player in the drug syndicate.
This latest seizure has been linked to the same drug network involved in an earlier case from October 2, where Delhi Police seized 560 kilograms of cocaine and 40 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana from a godown in Mahipalpur. The estimated value of the confiscated drugs in that operation was pegged at Rs 5,620 crore.
Lookout Circular Issued for Prime Suspect
In connection with the bust, the Delhi Police has issued a lookout circular (LOC) against Indian-origin Dubai-based businessman, Virender Basoya, who is suspected of being involved in the Rs 5,620 crore drug cartel. The authorities are also on the hunt for other members linked to the operation.
Four suspects were arrested during the Mahipalpur raid, including Tushar Goyal (40), Himanshu Kumar (27), Aurangzeb Siddiqui (23), and Bharat Kumar Jain (48). Two more individuals were later apprehended in Amritsar and Chennai, while another accomplice, Akhlak, was taken into custody from Hapur in Uttar Pradesh earlier on Thursday. Akhlak allegedly played a crucial role in transporting the narcotics across northern India.
Massive Drug Network Unveiled
The latest bust highlights the scale and reach of the drug cartel operating in the region. With the seizure of drugs worth over Rs 7,620 crore in just a month, the Delhi Police continues to crack down on drug trafficking operations, aiming to dismantle the international network behind these activities.
