Venezuela US Visit Ends Without Major Deals
Venezuela’s interim President Delcy Rodriguez has returned from her first US visit since taking office without announcing any major agreements on debt, energy or mining, while also leaving the timing of the country’s promised elections unresolved.

Rodriguez travelled to New York for the United Nations General Assembly as Venezuela sought to rebuild financial and diplomatic ties following the removal of former President Nicolas Maduro in January.
Her delegation held discussions with US officials, international lenders and companies over Venezuela’s debt, oil sector and mining industry. However, no major agreements were announced by the end of the visit.
A proposed $2.5 billion bridge loan involving the Inter-American Development Bank also remains under discussion and has not yet received final approval.
Venezuela Election Date Remains Unclear
During her UN address, Rodriguez pledged that Venezuela would hold elections as part of a transition towards what she described as “full democracy”.
She did not, however, announce an election date. Venezuelan opposition groups and international officials have increased pressure on her administration to establish a clear timetable for a vote.
Election specialists have indicated that organising a credible national election could require at least a year to appoint electoral authorities and complete preparations.
Trump-Rodriguez Meeting Focuses on Political Transition
Rodriguez also held a brief meeting with US President Donald Trump during her visit, although no detailed official account of the discussion was released.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio later said discussions included restructuring Venezuela’s sovereign debt and political reforms, with Washington continuing to call for a free and fair election.
The visit marked an important diplomatic step for Venezuela’s transitional government, but major financial agreements and an election timetable remain unresolved.
