Union Home Minister Amit Shah has highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s growing role in India’s defence manufacturing sector, saying BrahMos missiles produced in the state are strengthening the country’s strategic capabilities while boosting industrial development.

Speaking at the inauguration of the fourth Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show in Greater Noida, Shah said BrahMos missiles manufactured in Uttar Pradesh were giving Pakistan “sleepless nights”.
He also highlighted the production of AK-203 assault rifles in Amethi, saying the weapons were strengthening India’s security forces in operations against terrorists and Maoist insurgents.
The BrahMos Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow was inaugurated in May 2025 as part of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. The facility undertakes assembly, integration and testing of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles.
Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor Expands Manufacturing
Shah said Uttar Pradesh had transformed from a state once associated with poor law and order into an increasingly important manufacturing and investment destination.
He pointed to defence corridors, vehicle manufacturing facilities and medical device parks as examples of the state’s industrial expansion.
The government has positioned the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor as a major component of India’s broader push to increase domestic defence production and reduce dependence on imported military equipment.
UP Trade Show Targets Global Investment
The five-day Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show, being held from September 25 to 29, is showcasing products from defence, manufacturing, handicrafts, agriculture, textiles and other sectors.
More than 2,400 exhibitors are participating, with hundreds of foreign buyers and international delegations attending the event.
Shah said greater investment, exports and industrial growth would be important for Uttar Pradesh’s ambition of developing into a $1 trillion economy.
