Delhi HC Issues Notice To CBSE Over OSM Plea
The Delhi High Court has issued notice to the Centre and the Central Board of Secondary Education on a plea filed by the National Students’ Union of India over alleged irregularities in CBSE’s newly introduced On-Screen Marking system.
Delhi High Court Notice To CBSE
A vacation bench of Justices Neena Bansal Krishna and Madhu Jain sought responses from the Department of Education and CBSE. The matter has been listed for further hearing on June 12.
The petition alleges “large-scale irregularities and deficiencies” in the On-Screen Marking system introduced by the board. It has raised concerns over the accuracy of scanned copies and the evaluation process.
NSUI Plea On On-Screen Marking System
The plea was filed on May 29 by NSUI chief Vinod Jakhar. It claims that CBSE’s repeated public clarifications on the On-Screen Marking system have created concern among students and the public about the integrity of the evaluation process.
The petition has sought directions for manual rechecking and physical verification of answer sheets in cases where students dispute the scanned copies or the assessment process.
CBSE Opposes Political Body Petition
CBSE standing counsel M A Niyazi opposed the plea by arguing that it had been filed by a student wing of a political party. He submitted that education should not be politicised.
Counsel for NSUI countered that the organisation’s political affiliation does not disqualify it from filing a petition. The plea states that students should not suffer because of alleged deficiencies in a system introduced by the authorities themselves.
