Cyclone Murasu Triggers Karnataka Rain Alert
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across parts of Karnataka as Cyclone Murasu moves inland after making landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Coastal Karnataka, the Malnad region and parts of southern Karnataka are expected to experience rain and thunderstorms through November 5, with showers possible in some areas on November 6.
IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Nine Karnataka Districts
The weather department has issued yellow alerts covering Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Chikkaballapur, Kolar and Bengaluru districts.
Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated locations, particularly across coastal and Malnad districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also forecast.
IMD scientist C.S. Patil said the additional rainfall could help reduce Karnataka’s accumulated rainfall deficit.
The department’s November 3 forecast indicates heavy rainfall warnings for coastal and southern interior Karnataka through November 5, with no heavy rainfall warning currently listed for November 6.
Bengaluru and Malnad Regions Expect More Showers
Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts are likely to experience cloudy skies, light to moderate rainfall and occasional thunderstorms.
Rainfall is also expected across Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu and adjoining districts, while parts of northern Karnataka could experience thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds.
In Raichur district, a lightning strike on Monday reportedly killed a 55-year-old farmer and injured three others.
Cyclone Murasu Makes Landfall in Andhra Pradesh
Cyclone Murasu crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast near Ongole early Tuesday morning, bringing winds of approximately 100 to 110 kmph, gusting to 120 kmph.
The storm is expected to weaken as it moves inland, although associated moisture and atmospheric circulation could continue influencing rainfall across neighbouring states.
Residents have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms, avoid exposed areas during lightning and follow updated district-level weather advisories.
