North Korea Denies $6 Billion Binance Hack

North Korea has rejected allegations by the United States that its hackers orchestrated a cryptocurrency theft exceeding $6 billion from Binance, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges. On Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, dismissed the accusations as a “trite provocation” and accused Washington of using cybercrime allegations to damage Pyongyang’s international reputation.

FBI Links Binance Cryptocurrency Theft to North Korea

Binance disclosed on October 30 that hackers had stolen more than $6 billion in digital assets, potentially making it the largest cryptocurrency theft recorded.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) subsequently attributed the attack to TraderTraitor, a hacking group linked to North Korea.

American investigators previously associated the same group with the $1.5 billion theft from cryptocurrency exchange Bybit in 2025.

However, the FBI’s attribution remains disputed by Pyongyang, and the investigation has not resulted in a publicly established judicial finding.

Kim Yo Jong Rejects US Cybercrime Allegations

Kim Yo Jong accused Washington of routinely blaming North Korea whenever major international cyberattacks occur.

She characterised the FBI’s claims as politically motivated and warned that Pyongyang was closely monitoring what it considered continuing American provocations.

North Korea has repeatedly denied involvement in international cryptocurrency thefts, despite previous investigations linking state-sponsored hacking groups to major cyber incidents.

Cryptocurrency Theft Adds to US-North Korea Tensions

South Korea’s Foreign Ministry has warned that cyberattacks linked to North Korea pose an increasing threat to the global digital economy.

Security analysts have suggested that stolen digital assets provide Pyongyang with foreign currency despite international sanctions.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump acknowledged uncertainty about North Korea’s involvement, saying investigators were still examining the incident.

The allegations emerge amid renewed North Korean weapons testing and speculation about possible diplomatic engagement between Washington and Pyongyang.
