China Backs Pakistan’s Sovereignty Amid Operation Sindoor

As tensions escalate between India and Pakistan under the ongoing Operation Sindoor, China has once again thrown its diplomatic weight behind Islamabad. On Saturday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed strong support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national independence during a phone call with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

According to a statement issued by the Pakistan Foreign Office, the conversation was held to discuss the “evolving regional situation.” During the exchange, Dar reportedly briefed Wang Yi about the latest developments in South Asia, particularly the intensifying border standoff with India, which has led to blackouts, drone sightings, and cross-border tensions.

China Pakistan Support
China’s foreign minister assured Dar that Beijing would “continue to stand by Pakistan in upholding its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national independence.” The pledge underscores China’s strategic alliance with Pakistan at a time when New Delhi is actively countering cross-border threats through Operation Sindoor—a nationwide security posture aimed at repelling drone incursions and deterring further hostilities from across the western border.

Operation Sindoor Context
China’s statement comes as India remains on high alert under Operation Sindoor, following an unprecedented number of drone sightings and missile interceptions near the border. The Indian military has also responded with targeted strikes against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied territories, prompting global concern about regional stability.

Wang Yi’s Assurance
This isn’t the first time Beijing has publicly supported Islamabad during periods of India-Pakistan tensions. China has consistently used its diplomatic platforms to reinforce Pakistan’s geopolitical stance, often calling for dialogue while subtly backing Pakistan’s narrative in the international arena.

While New Delhi has not officially responded to Wang Yi’s remarks, experts view this statement as a reiteration of China’s long-term strategy to maintain its influence in South Asia by keeping Pakistan as a strategic counterweight to India.

As Operation Sindoor continues and ceasefire violations remain a real threat, China’s positioning may further complicate the geopolitical dynamics in the region, drawing more attention from global powers already watching the Indo-Pak border with concern.
