Bengaluru Silk Board Flyover Creates History

Bengaluru’s long-criticised Silk Board traffic junction has entered a new phase with the opening of South India’s first double-decker flyover, combining road movement and metro infrastructure on the same corridor.

Bengaluru Silk Board Traffic Jam

Silk Board Junction has long been known as one of Bengaluru’s most congested traffic points, with commuters often facing long delays during peak hours. The stretch connects key routes used by office-goers, tech workers and daily commuters moving between major parts of the city.

The new flyover is expected to reduce travel time and ease traffic pressure at one of the city’s busiest junctions.

South India First Double-Decker Flyover

The project is being described as South India’s first double-decker flyover, with road traffic moving on one level and Namma Metro infrastructure built above it. The model is aimed at using limited urban space more efficiently in a city where road expansion has become increasingly difficult.

The structure is part of Bengaluru’s broader push to combine road and metro projects to reduce congestion without requiring separate corridors for each mode of transport.

Bengaluru Metro And Road Connectivity

The double-decker corridor is expected to improve connectivity around Silk Board and nearby areas, especially for commuters using routes linked to Electronic City, HSR Layout, BTM Layout and Outer Ring Road.

Officials expect the project to support smoother traffic movement while also strengthening future metro connectivity. However, traffic discipline, proper lane management and last-mile planning will remain important for the project to deliver lasting relief to commuters.
